A, how do you go about doing your self-portrait?
Mark-hey! I felt motivated to make this more straightforward portrait one day after having looked a lot at the Alice Neel skull self portrait and the Max Beckmann self portrait with crystal ball clippings (see "Self Portraits" category on this blog site) on my studio wall. I actually made both portraits looking in the back of my ipod because I couldn't find a mirror. I think I am interested in how the artist mythologizes him/herself and also how he/she constructs a public self. Like how would I look as moody dark-eyed Max Beckmann...or how I look a day I feel I am at my most grotesque (Alice Neel's skull)I am also interested in how there are fields of Psychology that believe they can interpret self portraits by decoding the hidden symbols and clues in it. I am dubious.
